Overview
Kerry Studio is a desktop SQL database manager for PostgreSQL, MySQL/MariaDB, Oracle, and SQLite.
It is organized in two parts:
- Workspaces. A workspace is like a folder where you organize your work. On the home screen you manage workspaces. The name is up to you: personal or work, a client, whatever makes sense.
- Projects, connections, and environments. A project groups connections, one per environment. The environment can be Development, Staging, Production, or whatever you create. The connection is what is saved in that environment: host, database, and credentials.
Installation
Download the app from the Download section. The license arrives when you subscribe.
For macOS
- File:
.dmg - Requirements: macOS 13 Ventura or later on Apple Silicon (M1 or newer).
- Open the disk image and drag Kerry Studio into Applications.
- Open the app.
For Windows
The Windows package is not available yet.
- Requirements: Windows 11, 64-bit (x64). Windows 10 and 32-bit installs are out of scope.
For Linux
- File: AppImage (
kerry-studio-linux-*.AppImage) - Requirements: Linux 64-bit (x86_64). Ubuntu 22.04, Debian 12, or an equivalent still supported by the vendor. Alpine and other musl systems are out of scope.
On Linux, Kerry Studio is an AppImage. There is no traditional installer. Follow the sections in order: FUSE, graphics libraries, AppImageLauncher, and open the AppImage. On Ubuntu 24.04 or similar, complete the sandbox on first launch.
FUSE (required)
Ubuntu, Debian, and similar recent distros ship FUSE 3. Kerry Studio still needs the FUSE 2 compatibility library. Do not install the package named fuse, because that can break the desktop.
Ubuntu 22.04, Debian 12, Pop!_OS, Linux Mint
sudo apt update && \
sudo apt install libfuse2Ubuntu 24.04+, Debian 13+
sudo apt update && \
sudo apt install libfuse2t64Fedora, RHEL
sudo dnf install fuse-libsArch Linux, Manjaro
sudo pacman -S fuse2Graphics libraries
On a freshly installed or minimal Ubuntu/Debian desktop, the window may not open until these packages are present. A full Fedora or Arch desktop usually already has them.
Ubuntu before 24.04 / Debian before 13:
sudo apt update
sudo apt install -y \
libnss3 \
libatk1.0-0 \
libatk-bridge2.0-0 \
libcups2 \
libdrm2 \
libgtk-3-0 \
libgbm1 \
libasound2Ubuntu 24.04+ / Debian 13+ (several libraries now have a t64 suffix):
sudo apt update
sudo apt install -y \
libnss3 \
libatk1.0-0t64 \
libatk-bridge2.0-0t64 \
libcups2t64 \
libdrm2 \
libgtk-3-0t64 \
libgbm1 \
libasound2t64AppImageLauncher (required)
AppImageLauncher adds the app to the system menu with the correct icon, makes .db / .sqlite / .sqlite3 / .sql open in Kerry Studio, and keeps updates on the same AppImage path.
Ubuntu, Debian, Pop!_OS, Linux Mint: download the latest .deb from the AppImageLauncher releases page, then:
sudo dpkg -i appimagelauncher_*.deb
sudo apt-get install -fFedora, RHEL: download the latest .rpm from the same page, then:
sudo dnf install appimagelauncher_*.rpmArch Linux, Manjaro
yay -S appimagelauncherOpen the AppImage
- Make it executable: right-click → Properties → Permissions → Allow executing file as program, or in the folder that contains the file:
chmod +x kerry-studio-*.AppImage- Open the AppImage. When AppImageLauncher appears, choose Integrate and run, not Run once. That moves the file to
~/Applicationsand creates the menu shortcut.
Sandbox on Ubuntu 24.04+
Ubuntu 24.04 and later (and other systems that restrict unprivileged user namespaces) block the sandbox Kerry Studio needs. After you open the app, Sandbox Setup Required may appear. Click Enable Secure Sandbox and confirm your password in the system dialog. The app writes a profile at /etc/apparmor.d/kerry-studio and restarts.
If you click Quit, or setup fails, Kerry Studio closes. This happens once per install, or again if you move the AppImage to another path.
System keyring
Ubuntu Desktop, Pop!_OS, Linux Mint, and other GNOME desktops already include the Secret Service keyring (gnome-keyring and libsecret). On a normal desktop you do not need to install anything.
Install only if Kerry Studio shows Incomplete System Security and then quits, typical of Server, a minimal install, WSL, or a window manager without a keyring.
Ubuntu, Debian, Pop!_OS, Linux Mint
sudo apt update && \
sudo apt install gnome-keyring libsecret-1-0Fedora, RHEL
sudo dnf install gnome-keyring libsecretArch Linux, Manjaro
sudo pacman -S gnome-keyring libsecretopenSUSE
sudo zypper install gnome-keyring libsecret1Then restart Kerry Studio.
Activation
On first launch Kerry Studio opens the license window. Click I have a key to open My Licenses. After that, the Help menu shows My Licenses when a license is already active, or Activate License if there is none yet.
Paste the key, enter the email, check I accept the Kerry Studio license. and click Add. When the key is valid, click Apply license.
Use the key on another computer
The license stays active on one computer at a time. You can activate and deactivate as many times as you want to move between your devices.
Replacing the disk (for example formatting the SSD and installing the app on another one) may count as another computer in some cases.
To free the key:
- On the previous computer, open My Licenses and choose Deactivate on this computer.
- On the new computer, open My Licenses and enter the required details. If you are switching between your own computers and have already added the license, click Reactivate on this computer.
- If you replaced the disk or lost access to the previous PC, contact support.
